Ethically Speaking

Why Ethics Bowl?

  • Because of the competition aspect, ethics bowl pushes students to be their very best and argue their points clearly and concisely.

However, ethics bowl is intended to be collaborative. Teams can choose which side to argue, or be creative and come up with their own unique position. Their opponents then don’t have to disagree. It is common and encouraged for teams to agree, but ask related questions and push their opponents’ thinking to a deeper level.

  • Ethics is involved in so many of our day–to–day actions. To be self–aware, responsible, and effective (individually and as members of our community), it is useful to work on ethical literacy.

  • Ethics bowl fosters public speaking skills as students learn to come up with and articulate their own opinions. Students have to learn to express their thoughts in presentations and to defend their position on the spot, in back–and–forth conversations.

  • Most (if not all) great thigns are done together. For many participants, their team and the community they find are the greatest takeaways.

Also, Ethics Bowl friendships are for life. If nothing else, it is a great opportunity to meet some thoughtful and fun people!

Our Services

Our Mission

Ethics is ubiquitous in everyday life. From our interactions with friends and family to business, school, and political decisions, every action and inaction is made in the context of ethics. Whether it’s for your individual success or the good of society, ethical literacy is crucial. And, not to mention, very fun!

Most schools do not have an ethics bowl program. These include schools with considerable resources, which only need a quick introductory spark, as well as schools which need more resources and guidance.

This is where we come in.

It is our goal to teach students at schools across America how ethics bowl works. To increase societal good and individual enjoyment, we provide training in both ethics bowl and ethical literacy in general.
